If you do the work, stay focused, & believe.. your life can change at any moment in this industry!
There is so much pressure for Actors to grow their Social Media presence, but is spending too much time on these platforms actually killing your career?
Let's talk about ways to fight the urge to keep "scrolling" & get back to actually training for the opportunites that are on the way to us!
How do we take control of our own Happiness when we're not getting Auditions? One way is by creating our own content.
When we're consisently focusing on a creative project that we're excited about, we're really filling our own Creative Cup instead of waiting for the industry to fill it.
Then when we do get the audition opportunities, we're extra jazzed because it's just icing on the cake we've already made!
So I started rehearsing for a play this week & it reminded me what a kick-ass Training ground Theater can be.
I think we forget when we get too deep into Film & TV how valuable theater can be for #upleveling our career, because we're often working on 100+ page scripts.
So many times when we're starting in Film & TV, we're getting 2-3 page scripts...heck even when we've been at it for years, we may still be working on those. And that's not to discredit those opportunities, but you've got to get to a point where your Memorization skills are off the chain!
I work with so many Actors who get stressed out if they get 5 pages or more for an Audition, so the question really is...
What are you Training for?
Are you Training for that Co-star today or are you Training long-term for a Series Regular where you've got 30 pages/night to tackle?
So I encourage you...go do a play. Remember what it's like to master 100 pages of...
I'm pretty convinced that Actors don't understand Money.
Ok, that sounds harsh. It's not that most Actors don't understand Money, it's more that we've been filled with hopes & dreams of landing that National Commercial or Series Regular role that will secure our financial futures, but I'm here to tell you...
I'm not the Progessive girl ;-( As much as I want to be.
Ok what's your point, Erin?
The thing is, I'm seeing Actors put their classes on credit cards a lot lately. This hurts my heart to its core because a career that has a 2.5% return on investment is NOT a career worth going into debt over.
Wow, thanks for the ultra-depressing post, Erin!
Okay, okay...hang with me.
Here's where my heart is with this...
I want you to Succeed in Acting. I want you to be part of that 2.5% that doesn't need a side hussle.
But for today, if you're not, I want to strongly urge you to...
How often do you work on Monologues in your Film and TV classes?
I’m guessing probably never.
I feel like Monologues are part of the Stone Age or maybe they’re just for Theater auditions? Honestly they’re not.
And if you think that you can pull off Denzel‘s famous Monologue from Fences, even if you can, you best not.
When we do material that other Actors have already made famous, who do you think the CDs are thinking of? It’s so crazy important to find material that is obscure, and absolutely perfect for you, that you can slay.
I’m hearing more and more lately that there are Casting Directors out there who will ask you for a Monologue in addition to your Self-Tape.
A few weeks ago, Tiffany VanBoxtel, Founder of Star Singer, invited me to be on her podcast to talk to her singers about where to find kick-ass Monologues. You can catch it here on iTunes, it's Episode #183.
You never know when you’re going to run into...
